2017 just arrived and it bring new seasons of our favorite shows. Here’re 5 shows which are getting reloaded this year that we’re waiting with all our hype.
Sense8 – 5 May (Netflix)
We know nothing about the second season yet.
We enjoyed the Christmas special that gave us a glimpse of where our characters are but not much more about the villain, Mr. Whispers. In May we will know what is going to happen to our 8 heroes. They’re fine, but not in a good place, everyone is facing the aftermath of what happened in the first season and good news, they are (finally) all together and ready to help each other.
Created by Lilly Wachowski & Lana Wachowski, Sense8 got a huge success for such an unusual show. The synopsis doesn’t shed much light on what the Sensates are going to face next season: in a nutshell, Capheus/Van Damme (Toby Onwumere), Kala (Tina Desai), Lito (Miguel Angel Silvestre), Nomi (Jamie Clayton), Riley (Tuppence Middleton), Sun (Donna Bae), Will (Brian J. Wright) and Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) are united and start helping out each other. Hunted by Whispers (Terrence Mann) they are compelled to question their own identities in order to survive. Sensates have to learn how to live and protect themselves against every obstacle.
Black Mirror (Netflix)
A few months ago we saw season 3, but we already know that the fourth is in production. Netflix ordered 12 new episodes when it decided to buy the series, and split it into two halves of a single season.
Even if Black Mirror shifts from England to America, series remains one of the highest quality shows out there.
We know very little, but it’s been confirmed that Jodie Foster will be directing one episode, and that the main character will be Rosemary DeWitt (of La La Land). We don’t know when season 4 will be available, but we can’t wait to see it.
The Defenders (Netflix)
The Marvel shows keep coming, and if we are going to see Iron Fist in the first part of 2017, and later The Punisher, we know that the team-up project The Defenders is going to be in production before 2018.
Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist are going to team up to defend New York from a terrible villain. All of them are in the same city so, at some point, the have to meet each other. Yes, Luke Cage was already introduced in the Jessica Jones series, but aren’t you curious to see them together?
The Defenders cast is filled up with characters from several shows like Elektra from Daredevil and Misty from Luke Cage. Of course Rosario Dowson will be also in this show. As for the villain, her name’s Alexandra – a woman described as classy, clever, dangerous, and very powerful. Alexandra will be portrayed by Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver.
The Leftovers – April (HBO)
Maybe you already gave a try to this series, but you should give it a second chance. In April we will met once again (and for the last time) Kevin and Nora.
The show’s first season starts with the disappearence 140 millions people – 2% of the world’s population. Three years later, the series follows some of the people who were attached to the disappearences in Mappleton city.
Each character has a had a huge loss. The entire family of Nora disappeared while they were having breakfast, and she was left alone in the house; Kevin’s family was destroyed by this event in a less clamourous way, but painfully nonetheless.
The show was created by Damon Lindelof (Lost) and author Tom Perrotta, who wrote the novel from which the story was adapted. They got one last season to say goodbye and you should join them for that.
Twin Peaks –21 May (Showtime)
25 years later, David Lynch dusts off Twin Peaks (actually 26 but don’t care). Our parents watched it on TV in the 90s and we saw it when it became a cult classic. It’s a pre-internet show so the secret about who killed Laura Palmer is well kept. Thank God for that.
Cooper’s quaint wisdom, the map you have to draw to understand the relationships between the myriad characters that populate the town, the fear that first took you when Bob first entered the room and, of course, Laura Palmer are going to go back in Twin Peaks.
A third season had been long in demand from fans all around the world and Showtime decided to listen. 18 one-hour episodes are scheduled for release.
Sheryl Lee is reprising her iconic role as Laura Palmer. I don’t know in what ghostly capacity, but she’s already died twice in the show, so that checks out. New characters played by newcoming A-list actors include Monica Bellucci, Jim Belushi, Tim Roth, Naomi Watts, Amy Shields, Robert Knepper, Chrysta Bell and Amanda Seyfried.
Our wait is at an end. On May 21st we’re finally going back to Twin Peaks.
